Jess Johnson is a photographer BASED IN BEND, OREGON

The relationship between a photographer and their subject is a complex one, it's an energetic exchange.  It requires trust to be photographed.  Trust that the photographer will treat a subject well, tell a story that is accurate and true while holding empathy for their human experience. Trust that the angle and lighting will be used to advantage and purpose.  Trust that something important about them will be communicated and that art is being created. When a person trusts a photographer to capture their essence there is an openness, vulnerability and strength that this interaction generates and then is communicated into the photograph. I am a photographer.  I strive to always tell a story or show a perspective, expose emotions . . . or allow the subjects depth to paint a picture. Photography is more than a two dimensional art form, the process that goes into creating the image is where the art exists.

I studied Photography & Design at the Art Institute of Portland under Pulitzer Prize winning photographers David Brunn and Randy Rasmussen. While in Portland, I worked at the internationally acclaimed Swanson Studio, and regularly worked on shoots for Nike, Microsoft and Powerade, amongst other nationally recognized brands. I interned with Stu Mullenberg of SagaCity Media, shooting for Portland Monthly Magazine and its subsidiaries. I have also worked at Steve Tague Studios in Bend, OR, and shot for local brands such as Hydroflask, Cairn, The Source Weekly, Navone Jewelry and Im One Organic Apparel.

No two projects are alike. Every shoot has a different subject, voice and purpose. Every project is built from the ground up, based on a vision.
